Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

For my audience feedback I decided to gather my media class as a group to discuss my media tasks on what they liked and what i could improve on to make my work better.

The first question i asked was, What do you like about my trailer? The response i received  was positive. Most of the grouped liked the fact that the filming was dark and gloomy not giving much away as you could see everything that was in the frame. They also liked my camera work and how i used out of focus to build tension. They also liked how i filmed day to day of the main character being watch as it showed what is going on. they also liked how they wanted to watch the film to find out what happens in the film after watching the trailer, as they were left on a cliff hanger. They like how they are left with enigma codes as it leaves them asking questions.

The second questioned i asked was what they didn't like about my trailer? most people thought that the music could have been more tension building to go with the gloomy and out of focus camera work. It could also show the main character more in the trailer to get the audience to know the main character a bit more. Also that i could have used more of the original sound that i had captured with the filming, as it would make it more realistic.

I presented my work on a prezi:

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I beleive my trailer is effective in the horror industry as through out my trailer it is dark, something horror films do to build tenion through out their trailers. Also i used hand held camera through out most of my trailer to make it more realistic as my trailer was about a girl being watched. When filming my trailer i decided to film some parts out of focus to build tention soimething that production companies do today in the horror industry. In similar style to the trailer of 'Sinister' i used the quotes saying'nerve - wrecking' to create that sense that other people had seen it and thought it was never-wrekcing making people want to go see it them selves to see what it is all about. I also tried to conect with audience by quoting theres nothing you can do to, so it would get the audience on edge as they would wantr to help the main charcter in my movie trailer making them want to see the film and find out more and to actually see what happens that they couldnt stop or help with. Towards the end of my trailer i show flashes of whats happening to the main character to tease the audience this is effective because it makes the audience want to go see the film to find out what happens, trailers such as 'Paranormal activity' do the same to build tension. I also used the title in a scary, gory font to keep with the horror theme but is also effective to because it lets the audience be aware that it is a horror/thriller. Overall i think my trailer leaves the audience wondering and wanting to know more about what happens in the film which over all i think it is very effective.
I also think in combination to my trailer that my magazine cover is also effective. This is because I thought if i kept my magazine cover plain and simple and also all about my movie trailer it would make the audience insterested in seeing it. By ussing my main chacter half off the magazine looking quite shocked the audience are left wondering why making them want to see the film which is the main aim. With the main chacter being half way off the cover i think that it is mysterious and doesnt give much about the film away to keep the audience wondering. I also put the title of the film' The wtaching' half off the page too to make it look as though both the main chacter and the title are hiding from something for a reason, building tension for the audience making the magazine cover effective. I used Empire magazine for my magazine branch because it is a well know film magazine that is successful to create that success in my trailer as it is wrote and spoke about by a well know successful film magazine company. over all i think that by keeping my magazine quiet plain and spaced out instead of crammed is effective bwcause the audiences full attention is on what happens in my film.

I agree that my magazine poster is also effective as it is realistic. By using the credits about what company and direct etc made the movie i make the trailer realistic. The main image on my poster is effective as the audience are left wondering why the main chacter is putting her hands over her eyes, and with the film being called the watching yet the main character has her eyes covers it doesnt add up which leaves the audience wondering what actually happens. I edited the image into dark colours to make it gloomy and mysterious making an effective horror poster. I decide to put a fade our of grren along the bottle of the poster to make the title of the film stand out more so the audience would look at that straight away. I aslo used the font of 'The Watching' because it looked quite horror like and spooky which effectivly let sthe audience know straught away that it is a horror because of the font. The tag line 'is he seeking you...' make the audience wonder who it is on about and why would he be watching them making them want to see the film to find out more.

Over all the trailer, magazine and poster work effectively together because i used the same font on all three things which keep the audience known and recgonise it when they see it making the audience bigger. Also by using the same person in all three piece it also makes the audience recgonise it which makes them want to see it every thime they see something that it related in all three of them.

Magazine cover ideas

When i was looking through film magazine i came across this one created by empire magazine. I like the lay out of the magazine cover as it is spread out not crammed together there also isn't really a lot to read on the cover so it will stick in the viewers head. I also like how the main character is infront of the title, empire, but yet the view still knows its empire magazine making the image dominant.

Final poster

After playing around with the effects i decided to make the image into dark cold colours to make it more horror like.
I also decided on the red font to make it stand out from the background which will catch the audiences attention. The font that I chose to use

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In both screen shots 4 and 6 it shows the fonts that I had used, I downloaded them from dafont.com. I used this font because i thought it look like a horror like font that would be used in the media in this day in age. I used the white for it to stand out from the background, making the audience look straight at it something which the media uses today. The 6th screen shot is also the same font as what i used on my movie poster so my audience would recognise my film because of the title. I used screen shot 4 because films such as 'Sinister' use them in their trailers to keep the audience interested.
Shot 2 shows some camera angles and work i used through out my trailer. In this particular shot I used going from out of focus to keep the audience questioning to in focus to show them what it going on. Many horror trailer use this technique to build tension.
Shot 5 shows the main character, this is the first time we see her face up close, which is 3/4 of the way into a trailer, making the audience wonder and think about who the main charcter is and what is going on. Previously she is either out of focus or far away and it was too dark to see her in detail.
In shot 3 it shows camera skills as I used hand held camera to create tention for the audience something that is used in productions in this day in age in films such as 'The Blair Witch Project'.
Also all the lighting in the screen shots, 1,2,3 and 5 use dark lighting in a cinematic style of a horror trailer usually used to keep the audience waiting on edge.
Overall my trailer used cinematic style of a horror through out.
